Ensure security and performance with the latest 3CX SBC upgrade.

The 3CX SBC build 18.1.36 for Windows and Linux, released in 2022 along with all SBCs running on Debian 9 or Debian 10, will reach End-of-Life (EOL) on 31st December 2024. After this date, 3CX will no longer support or update these versions.

Why Are These SBCs Reaching EOL?

This decision ensures secure and optimal performance for all users. Key reasons include:

  • Debian EOL: Debian 9 “Stretch” and Debian 10 “Buster” have reached their end-of-life stages, leaving these operating systems unsupported. Read more about Debian’s lifecycle.
  • Enhanced SBC Features: The latest SBC build (20.0.100) offers significant improvements, including:
    • Resolved audio issues, memory leaks, and crashes.
    • Enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) for better call quality (requires 3CX V20).
    • Compatibility with 3CX V20 and older versions, so there’s no reason to delay your upgrade.

Migration Process

The migration process depends on your current SBC setup:

Upgrading Raspberry Pi 3 or 4

  1. Download the latest Raspberry Pi OS Lite image for Debian 12 (arm64 or armhf).
  2. Flush the SD card and install the new image.
  3. Follow the guide to install the latest SBC.

Upgrading from Debian Stretch/Buster to Bookworm Debian 12

  1. SSH into your SBC Debian instance.
  2. Execute the following commands:

wget
chmod +x sbcosupgrade.sh
sudo bash sbcosupgrade.sh

Upgrading Windows SBC

  1. Download the latest Windows SBC installer.
  2. Run the installer; it will update the SBC to the new version instantly without any reconfigurations.

Don’t Wait Until the Last Minute

Staying on unsupported versions leaves your communication system vulnerable and outdated. Upgrade now to benefit from improved security, better call quality, and peace of mind.
